Vajrasana or Diamon Pose is the most important asana of the few asanas which are very simple, can be done by everyone, and at the same time give wonderful results. Vajram means diamond. It got its name because it is an asana that can make our body firm like a diamond.
We can do Vajrasana by sitting or in a standing pose. It helps to purify the blood and improves blood circulation to the lungs and heart. It reduces nervousness and gives relaxation. The oxygen will be grasped very well by the lungs and gives energy to the body.
Vajrasana Procedure
- First, sit straight with both legs extended on the floor.
Then the right heel should be folded under the right buttock. - Your body should touch the floor, knee joints must nearer to each other.
- In this case, both the legs should be together. Both the palms should be placed on the knees.
- Then slowly inhale for a count of 4 and then slowly exhale for a count of 8.
- Then slowly stretch each leg and return to the original position. This asana should be done for 3-4 minutes first. Then gradually increase it to 5-7 minutes.
- To return to the normal state remove the hands one by one and keep them beside the body then be in the Vajrasana state by stretching the elbows.
Warning: Don’t do Vajrasana, if you have any wound or pain in the knee joints.
Vajrasana Benefits
- For those who sit in Vajrasana, the blood flow does not go down to the knee area as long as they are in that asana. This relaxes varicose veins. According to Earth’s gravity, the blood flows downwards. Varicose veins help to push it upwards. If we are standing all day, the varicose vein will become active and cause problems in a short period of time. So this asana gives good results to people suffering from varicose veins.
- Generally, all asanas should be done on an empty stomach. Vajrasana is the only asana that can be done even after eating. Increased blood flow toward the abdominal area, solves digestive problems. Sit in this asana for 20 minutes after lunch and see if all the food eaten gets digested.
- Unnecessary fat in the abdomen, hips, and thighs will melt away. The belly will also decrease. If you do 20 minutes daily, you will lose weight.
- As the uterus gets good blood flow, all the cysts and menstrual disorders are removed. However, those planning for a baby can avoid doing this from the first month onward.
- Increases blood flow in the pelvis. It helps in strengthening the pelvic muscles. Postpartum women have urinary incontinence. It helps in curing that type of urinary incontinence. It helps ease labor pains and menstrual cramps.
- It is also called asana for meditation. The mind reaches a state. Reduces distractions and helps to achieve a deep state during meditation. The mind will calm down. That is why people of all religions sit on this asana and pray to God.
- Legs, hips, and thighs are strengthened. In this case, while doing pranayama while sitting, uniform blood flow to the scalp is quick and without obstruction.
